David: What was your question?
Participant 1: How did it happen that you could transmit Shakti,… like this?
David: How did it happen that I could transmit Shakti,“like this.” In my case? There was a propensity from birth. In addition to that inborn or innate capability, or potentiality, or actuality, there was a long time of meditation, many years of meditating under East Indian influences, Hindu or Vedic influences—long sadhana of making this vehicle porous and vacant enough to invite That to come in. Toward the end of the meditation sadhana, I met Masters, both living and deceased, [and] Avatars who helped me, who gave me their State, who gave me darshan, and through the darshan, the Entire State was given at the same time.
When I think about that question, I’m also reminded about the deceptive nature of the word shakti, that it can be misleading, as though it’s a thing, a happening or an event. Rightly understood, from the Vedic perspective, it is the Divine Mother Consciousness itself: it’s a very big item. It’s not some trickle of energy going up and down the spine. It’s the movement of the entire, active, visible universe: just within our solar system, think of that as the Shakti momentum, causing gravity, anti-gravity, all of the things we know about in physics.
In some way, that we can’t see or know, all of creation is animated or possessed, inhabited by, this Ferocious Velocity of coming together and breaking away, the velocity of the opposites. The Shakti is simply that. It’s the announced, expressed movement of an infinite, indefatigable, eternal Energy, that is not any different than the transcendent, quiet Being that underlies it. Shakti is Shiva. Energy is Pure Consciousness, or the Absolute.
So, there’s really no transmission of any thing. There is no “Shakti.” We humans labor for a lan-guage to express this kind of reality. But, in truth, there is no actual, concrete thing called “the Shakti,” anymore than there is a concrete thing called light. You see light coming out of the sun, but where is it? Is it in the sun, and then it comes out? Is it made at the center of the sun, in a location where you can’t see the light, and then the sun just blares it out as a physical vehicle? Well, the same thing is true of Energy. We can’t find a location of its Source, because it is one with that Source.
The procession of night and day is the Shakti, inexorable. You see it happening in your life—the sun, no sun, daytime, nighttime. So, in truth, the transmission of the Shakti is nothing but the light of the sun, or the light of the moon. There is solar Shakti and then there is lunar Shakti. There’s the hot, fiery aspect of the Light transmission, the bolt of lightening out of Consciousness; and then their is the cool, permeating, penetrating, quietening, inebriating, amrita-stimulating aspect of the Shakti, and it comes from the moon. The moon is the pictorial image that’s used to depict that quality of the Shakti. One burns and the other cools.
Any other questions?
P1: It sparked my curiosity. What did you mean when you say that you were born with propensity for it? How did you experience that as a child?
David: Lots of signs, signs that were recognized by me quietly in my Consciousness, a feeling that my whole life had been in something’s hands, some giant thing, just holding it and taking care of it, pushing it here, pulling it away from there: having premonitions constantly, so that I would have dreams fulfilled in the outer waking state. Things I had dreamed long ago would start happening three years from that dream; and this thing happening over and over again. Just a whole series of deep synchronicities in Consciousness, and a very vacant mind deep inside. On the surface going to school, but deep inside completely detached from it all, aware of that detachment. A life of medi-tation followed me into this birth. A life of illuminated meditation manifested immediately at my birth. I’m not bragging. I’m just telling you the way it is.
